INVESTMENT FUND STATISTICS

 November 2004

  • Investment funds under management £268 billion

  • Gross industry sales £5.3 billion (November 2003 £3.8 billion)

  • Gross retail sales £2.6 billion (November 2003 £2.2 billion)

  • Gross ISA sales £402 million (November 2003 £389 million)

Investment funds under management in November were up 3% from October and increased by 15% from the previous year. ISA funds under management also improved, up 2% from the previous month and 21% from November 2003.

Total net sales of £562 million were down 38% on the previous month but were higher than the £21 million in November 2003. Net retail sales continued to improve and grew 3% from October, however, they were down 26% on the previous year.

Net ISA sales continued to improve in November, up 21% from October, but were significantly behind the sales of £200 million in November 2003.

The most popular sector in November was UK All Companies accounting for 24% of gross retail sales, followed by UK Equity Income (13%) and UK Corporate Bond (11%).

The most popular distribution channel continued to be intermediaries, responsible for 73% of gross retail sales whilst sales force/tied agents sold the most ISAs (43% of gross ISA sales).

Sheila Nicoll, Deputy Chief Executive of the IMA commented:

“Sales in November were stable and ISA sales have remained positive.  We hope that the recent announcement from the Treasury that current ISA limits will remain until 2009 will remove some of the uncertainty which has affected the Government’s hitherto most successful savings product.  It remains to be seen whether ISAs will reach their previous popularity and fulfil their potential in encouraging individuals to save.”
