PRINCIPLED INVESTING IMAs free guide to ethical and socially responsible investment funds
The Investment Management Association (IMA) has produced a FREE fact sheet Ethical investment a guide to ethical and socially responsible investment funds, which explains that it is possible to invest in investment funds in line with your ethical principles.
The fact sheet helps you understand more about the screening behind ethical funds and gives information on how to select a fund which matches your principles. It also explains that investing ethically does not necessarily affect the performance of your fund.
Ethical investment provides you with a useful list of negative and positive criteria used by fund managers when picking stocks for their portfolios - these include:
Positive criteria (which funds actively support) Negative Criteria (which funds seek to avoid) 1. Corporate Governance 1. Animal testing 2. Equal opportunities 2. Genetic engineering 3. Environmental improvement 3. Nuclear power
Mona Patel, Head of Communications at the IMA, commented:
The majority of investors seek long-term sustainable returns and this fact sheet explains how its possible to achieve this while also investing according to your ethical principles. IMA's factsheet will help you to make the right choice of fund for both your financial goals and ethical ideals.
