IMA/ CBI JOINT STATEMENT

CBI Director-General Digby Jones said:

"This evening's dinner was a timely opportunity for an honest exchange of views. Detailed discussions took place which were both constructive and informative.

"The importance of direct dialogue, in a private setting, has been recognised and further meetings will take place over the coming months.                             

"Shareholders and companies remain firmly committed to working together more effectively.  After all, that's what UK business is all about."                                                                                  

Richard Saunders, Chief Executive of the Investment Management Association said:

"Getting fund managers and companies together around the table has helped to heighten awareness and understanding of the various issues as well as allowing the parties to engage in a meaningful dialogue.                                                                    

"It is in the interests of all stakeholders not only that this dialogue continues but that channels of communication remain open."
