INVESTMENT FUND STATISTICS
NOVEMBER 2001
-
Investment
funds under management £234 billion (November 2000 £259
billion)
-
Gross
industry sales £3.8 billion (November 2000 £4.5 billion)
-
Gross
retail sales £2.1 billion (November 2000 £2.7 billion)
-
Gross
ISA sales £391 million (November 2000 £669 million)
Investment
fund sales picked up again in November. At
£1.4 billion, total net sales of unit trusts and OEICs were almost
double that of October’s £776 million.
Net retail sales at £591 million are the highest since June
2001. Both figures
remain well below the levels of a year ago.
Funds under management increased from £223 billion to £234
billion as markets worldwide continued their recovery from 11
September.
Net ISA
sales of £268 million were 6% down on the previous month’s £286
million. Funds under
management for investment fund ISAs rose to £22 billion as at the
end of November. 41% of all investment fund ISAs were sold through sales
forces and tied agents, with IFAs responsible for 33% of gross sales
and the direct channel accounting for 25%.
The UK
Corporate Bond and UK Other Bond sectors continue to be the most
popular among retail investors in net sales terms, but the UK All
Companies sector continues to be the leading sector with ISA
investors. The top four
selling sectors with the institutional players are all equity-based.
Clare
Arber, Head of Communications at AUTIF, commented:
“We
are quietly encouraged by the investment fund sales figures for
November. Although
it’s still too early to say with certainty that investors have
regained confidence in stockmarket investment, there does appear
to be a growing number of savers who believe that now is a good
time to invest. However,
private investors continue to show a preference for bond fund
investment.”
